Anyone else experienced hardware problems with their VF Smart Platinum 7? Mine died 6 months after ownership this June, but VF won't help as it is beyond economic repair, and warranty is 'void' as I cracked the back camera lens in first week of ownership. Of course they don't believe me and won't help even though my wife and I have VF mobile and broadband customers for years. Would love to know if anyone else has had problems with their Smart Platinum 7 as VF have been a nightmare to deal with even though I am convinced their product is at fault. The speaker grill on top was a sticker that fell off after 2 months! Hi there, we're not aware of any general issues with this handset. If your handset is showing signs of a manufacturing fault and you have physical damage to the handset or it is outside of the warranty period, you will need to pay the repair fee.
Alternatively you can upgrade to a new device under our service. The faulty phone was sent for repair and as I could not prove that the cracked lens (which happened 5 months beforehand) was not the reason for the fault, the repair estimate was €180. After a lot of discussions VF agreed to pay half the estimate.
Unfortunately the phone cannot be fixed (VF repairs stated main board failure) so I am left in an 18 month Contract with no phone because of a faulty Vodafone Branded phone. VF won't accept my word that the cracked lens has nothing to do with the phone fault. Perhaps something ggot into the phone from the open speaker grill? A crappy sticker cover that came off leaving large open holes on the phone - the grill sticker on your premium handset lasted only 2 months of normal use. Sorry to hear that the repair company cannot repair damage caused.
The damage to the main board may not be relating directly to the crack in the lens however, it was likely damage caused to the phone at the time if you had dropped the handset causing the lens to crack. In this instance, your option would be to purchase a cheap PAYG handset to use for the remainder of your contract until you can use your standard upgrade, or alternatively you can upgrade early and pay a little more for your new device under our Upgrade Anytime service.

Seriously Sheena is that the best you can come up with the camera lens gets cracked after week one and 5 and a half months later the main board dies and could be related to the drop which caused the crack after week one.. I don't think so. You are assuming the phone was dropped in your reply, maybe you should ask the op how the lens was cracked. Lens can get damaged in pockets if keys impact them.
How about you request the engineers report and if that states the board failed due to a drop then so be it but if the report cannot find a root cause replace the handset as it would then be deemed a manufacturing fault. Thanks PMCE4, I would strongly agree with your comments. A little more of a rant below. The crack was on the phone from week 1 (noticed when I was unimpressed with the photos it was taking).
No earth shattering drops took place to cause this and I lived with my situation, as I made the assumption it was my fault (thinking to myself the lens cover must be made with cheap glass) Maybe the Vodafone reps can confirm if Gorillia glass is used on the lens cover of the Smart Platinum 7. There are no other dents, etc on my phone to indicate a serious, main board terminating, drop.
I am very disappointed with the way I have been treated by Vodafone. Vodafone don't seem to think anything about my potential customer lifetime value over the next 40 years of my life (and my wife's life). Up to now I would have been a strong promoter and advocate for the brand. Not any more. I was prepared to meet VF halfway on the repair costs of €180 but now that they are not prepared to repair, I am left without a phone. The option to switch to package is a joke with the price of handsets for someone only 6 months into a 2 year contract. In my view, they didn't even bother to properly assess if the damage was caused by genuine phone fault; once the lens was cracked, they didn't care (too much hassle and thankfully for FoneFix and Vodafone it was 'warranty void').

I then said that I had been tracking the FoneFix status and that it said the phone was unable to repaired - the VF staff member then paused, checked the phone and confirmed that it was not repairable. A main board failure nearly 6 months after the crack on the lens, where the phone was working fine. Battery life was never great once the phone got to 30% power but the online reviews all stated the battery was not great. When on holidays in June, after taking a good few ok-ish photos with the cracked lens glass, and whilst in the process of uploading them to google maps, my phone at 3% asked if I wanted to switch on the power saver mode. I said yes and the screen went blank. Getting back to my apartment and charging my phone resulted in the phone going into a constant loop of getting to the Vodafone logo, switching off and then switching on again, etc.
I powered the phone into system restore mode and reset to factory settings - as I really needed my phone. That was the end of the 'Premium' Vodafone Phone worth €320 after 6 months of satisfied use (excluding photo taking), with a sticker for a speaker grill cover that fell off after 2 months of normal use. Moral of the story don't pick a cheap 'Premium' Vodafone phone and don't rely on Vdafone to consider the potential customer lifetime value they have destroyed. Sorry to hear that the repair company cannot repair damage caused.

Hi pmce4, it is down to the decision of the professionals that work at the repair company to deem the handset as unrepairable relating to the physical damage. Correct, we do not know the details and so a simple assumption was made above based on the users comments. However if the OP would like a report we can certainly request this. Thanks PMCE4, I would strongly agree with your comments.

Moral of the story don't pick a cheap 'Premium' Vodafone phone and don't rely on Vdafone to consider the potential customer lifetime value they have destroyed Hi there, sorry you feel that way. If you send us a PM with your mobile, IMEI and repair reference number, we can check these finer details.
Hi pmce4, it is down to the decision of the professionals that work at the repair company to deem the handset as unrepairable relating to the physical damage. Hi I have provided my details to you by PM. It will be interesting to see how detailed your engineers report is. Perhaps it was a simple case of: phone not starting + broken back lens cover = void warranty = send back. My phone repair reports attached and marked up by me for info and privacy. My take: If I did not have 'PHYSICAL COSMETIC DAMAGE' this would have been a cut and dried case of 'FAULTY MAIN BOARD' and I would have been rightly entitled to a replacement phone or motherboard. Because Vodafone have opted to use the 'PHYSICAL COSMETIC DAMAGE' card, Vodafone haven't even bothered to determine what the real cause was - in all likelihood the genuine issue here is a 'FAULTY' VODAFONE BRANDED Phone, just about 6 months old. THE SIMPLE ANSWER HERE FOR VODAFONE IS, 'Trust what your previously loyal brand advocate is saying, take the hit, and replace either the phone or the motherboard' In the long run you will make it back.
Plus you would have an advocate as opposed to a seriously unhappy detractor. I had a 'flagship' Vodafone Platinum 7, the glass back developed a crack after a couple of months without me even having to drop it.
Vodafone wanted £100 to replace it. That's £100 for five minutes with a heat-gun and about a fiver's worth of component.
No third party can touch it as Vodafone have a monopoly on the parts. So, after walking around with it hidden in a crappy case (not many available for a niche product) for a few months more it collapses into a boot-loop. Can't even get it into recovery as it's totally toasted.
This is a common enough problem if you Google it and Vodafone have been forced into fixing it where they can't site cosmetic damage to get out of it. Moral: Vodafone will rip you off for cosmetic repairs but if you don't pay they'll use that fact to refuse all further warranty repairs.
Buy a Samsung or an iPhone in the first place, or if you must then get an Alcatel without Vodafone's rebranding and custom non-standard housing. Ok so in a nutshell the Vodafone Ireland team here at Boards.ie, in my opinion, are now ignoring me. Скачать Бесплатно Игру Mortal Kombat Vs Dc Universe Pc there.
No response to the last 3 PMs sent 11th 12th and 14th September. My phone died early June, diagnosed by Vodafone Irelands as main board failure.
After many many inretactions with Vodafone it was their decision to void my warranty due to a crack on the back camera lens cover. I am now trying to make a claim on my home insurance but cannot progress until Vodafone Ireland send me confirmation that a drop that happened 5 to 6 months previous to the phone meltdown would have caused this main board failure. Otherwise, I have no recourse to insurance. So guys, can you please help me out here. Your repairers report does not give the cause of the fault that has made this beyond economic repair.
You said you would chase this down. Can you please send me confirmation that the action that caused the crack in the phone lens, the drop, which happened well before the fault manifested was the reason for the main board failure?
